Life at Home Depot

I love my new job!

I never thought I could be so content being a cashier when I have a college degree. At work the people I work with are kind and we all get along. When I worked at the hospital there was a lot of bickering and back biting which is totally lame if you ask me. At Home Depot when I ask my manager a question he answers and honestly and if he doesn't know the answer he finds out, that day! That never happened at the hospital.
The biggest battle for me when I first started working at Home Depot was the fact that credit card sales where huge!  As in getting people to apply for one and then use it. I was a little sketchy on the whole thing. I didn't like being so pushy. But a co-worker had told me the way to get noticed and to move up is in credit card sells. So the next thing I know I get a credit sale. Then another and another. Last week I had the most sales for the store. I even out sold the top credit sales guy in the district. The best part of credit sales is the extra dollar on my pay check. Home Depot gives me a dollar for every credit I get. It is cool because they make it so that it is a dollar after taxes. So really they give my two dollars but I lose one to taxes. It is really awesome.
The coolest thing happened yesterday. I was in the store manager's office and I nearly jumped out of my skin when he said my name. My response was how do you know m name. ( I hadn't met him yet.) He had told me that he had heard wonderful things about me and was glad that I was on my team. Then it got better later in the day when a district manager was in the store and she knew my name too. So needless to say work is going very well! And my manager told me that it is looking pretty good that I will become a permanent employee. Which was a sigh of relief. I will have a better idea of that next week too.
Nick is adjusting to life with me working. The laundry doesn't get folded as fast and the house isn't always spotless but he is helping out more and more. A lot of times when I get home from work he has gone out of his way to make sure I have something to eat and the dishes are done. Both of things help so much I could cry some days because I am so tired. I love my poor college student of a husband.
In case you forgot this is a yak.
Oo I have a cool experience to tell you about. I ate yak... as in the animal the other day. It was amazingly delicious. I know it sounds not so good. But it tastes just like beef but it is sooo much better for you. It is super high in protein which I don't get enough of and very low in fat which I get too much of. So in the end it is a win, win. I bought a bunch and it is taking up my freezing. I plan that later this week we will be having a yak roast for dinner and I can hardly wait.
I also spent my days off last week with my mother in law upcycling a old china-like cabinet. It turned out pretty cool. We are half way done. When we have finished I will be sure to up load the pictures we took of the process and maybe you'll become inspired to upcycle something old in your house or storage unit.

Anyway that's been my life as of late. It has become very busy but enjoyable at the same time.
Love,
The Wife of a Poor College Student.

Oh Where! Oh Where, has Hannah been?

So it has almost been a whole month since I posted. So here is a little recap of what I have been up to. I have mastered our whirlypop. I love that popcorn and make 2-3 batches a week. Each time I make it I do three rounds in the whirlypop to fill my popcorn container. I love my popcorn container. It is an upcycled cheese pop container from Sam's Club. My husband loves those nasty things... they are cheap so I don't mind so much buying them for him.
I also made some magnets for my magnet board. I really like the way they turned out. I'll do another post with those instructions later. I made it up as I went.  I also finally labeled my all purpose, bread flour, rice, and sugar containers. I had them in 5 gallon and 2.5 gallon buckets that all looked a like. I am liking having them labeled. I used vinyl and gave the press-n-seal 'transfer paper' a go. I am still on the fence on whether or not I really liked it. In the end my conclusion is that I need to spend more time using it and  I will like it a whole lot more. I made a shadow box using the invitation from my wedding. I love the way it turned out. Oh and I got all my pictures up on the wall. I love it! My small little apartment feels more like a home now.
I've had the chance to really get to know and become good friends with my neighbor. Shay is pretty darn awesome and always willing to help me out when I am in a pinch. I would do the same for her of course. We have been spending a lot of time together too. We recovered her chairs, hopefully I will get to doing mine soon too. I already have the fabric just haven't covered them yet. We just have a lot of fun together. She has a beautiful little girl. I get the privilege to spend time watching her grow. I don't what it is about babies but I fall in love with them so quickly. Shay's daughter is a sweet one and well behaved. She helps me not miss my nieces and nephews that I don't get to see near enough!
I've tried a few new recipes. My husband hasn't minded one bit. I tried a cheesy chicken lasagna. It was so so yummy, however I will say that if you have a hard time with milk STAY AWAY! I also made homemade fried chicken my sister-in-law, Tina gave me the recipe. It was super yummy! I made a few different types of pound cake; I found them very satisfying. I made cake box cookies for visiting teaching, they weren't so bad.  I made Shay Better Than Sex Cake for her birthday. And just the other day I made monkey bread for the first time. That was gone in a flash.
Oh we had a FAUX SuperBowl party. It was so much fun. When had our neighbor's Steven and Shay along with our friend Duane. We ate baked potatoes and superbowl snacks while we watched Remember the Titans. We don't get any television channels so we did the next best thing.
And I finally started working at The Home Depot. I started 1 week ago yesterday. I have done nothing but computer training until today. I finally got my orange apron and worked on a register all by myself. I was a little shaky at first but by the time my shift was over I felt confident. I think I am going to like my job at The Home Depot. Everyone I work with is very nice and so willing to help. I highly recommend my friends and family shop there. They price match and beat other stores pricing on everything! It's pretty cool.
Lastly I have been doing the 14 days of Valentines for Nick. It is where every day leading up to Valentines he gets a sweet little reminder of my love. I will post all the little things I did for him after Valentines day. I like it but I am not so sure he cares for it so next year I will probably skip on doing it for him but I will definitely do it for my someday kiddos.
Well I guess that's it from me... I was going to attach photos but well we have the world's worst internet so maybe next time :-D Hopefully by then I will have a picture in my orange apron.
